Los Gatos Creek Bridge Replacement
Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of San Jose, is preparing to replace the railroad bridge crossing at Los Gatos Creek in San Jose. The current bridge was built in 1935, and in order to maintain safe rail operations and meet current seismic safety standards, the bridge must be replaced.
The project will also include installation of a tail track south of the San Jose Diridon station. The tail track will provide improved operations at the station and minimize system-wide delays.

Construction is expected to be complete in early 2018.
In order to maintain regular train service, some activities will be conducted during nights and weekends, outside of normal train service hours. Neighbors may experience construction noise and light during these times. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. For questions about the project, please call the Caltrain Construction Hotline at 650.508.7726 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The new bridge will be a pre-stressed/pre-cast concrete bridge with new foundations and a new widened bridge deck. Box girders will support three spans, each totaling approximately 175 feet long and 35 feet wide.
Construction of the bridge has the potential to temporarily impact the creek and vegetation. Caltrain will continue to make efforts to mitigate environmental impacts to the area. After construction, creek restoration efforts will be performed. Due to environmental regulations, all in-creek construction will take place from June 2017 to October 2017 .
Community Impacts During Construction
Work to replace the bridge is scheduled to start in Fall 2016 and is expected to last two years. To avoid impacting rail operations, some construction will take place during nights and weekends. Due to the nature of the construction, there will be temporary, localized noise impacts due to site clearing and construction activities.
Caltrain will be communicating with residents, businesses and other interested members of the public to discuss the project in more detail. Stakeholders will be provided with various opportunities to engage the project team and provide feedback prior to key milestones during the environmental review, design and construction phases.
