Caltrain Offers Additional Service to Bay to Breakers

Bay to Breakers is a beloved San Francisco tradition, and as always, Caltrain is ready to get racers to the starting line. Racers heading to the event this Sunday, May 17, can catch one of two special pre-event trains being offered so Peninsula and South Bay residents can make it to the starting line on time. Riders also can take advantage of Caltrain’s half-hourly weekend service for their return trips.

Caltrain will run two northbound special event trains with limited stops to the race.

  • San Jose: Train #925

    • Departs San Jose Diridon Station at 6:04 a.m.

    • Arrives San Francisco Caltrain Station at 7:20 a.m.

  • Palo Alto: Train #923

    • Departs Palo Alto Station at 6:08 a.m.

    • Arrives San Francisco Station at 7 a.m.

    • At Palo Alto station, riders will board the #923 train on the southbound platform.

Alcohol will be prohibited on the pre-event special trains. Riders are encouraged to arrive early at each station to ensure they can get on board their preferred train. The starting line is at Howard Street and Main Street, about 1.4 miles from the San Francisco Caltrain Station at Fourth and King streets. Participants can walk to the starting line from the station, or board the N Judah Muni train from King Street.

Clipper card users are reminded to tap on and tap off. Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system that requires riders to pay their fare before boarding; tickets are not sold onboard trains but can be purchased at station ticket machines.

Paid parking rules are enforced throughout the day, including on weekends and holidays. Parking at Caltrain stations costs $5.50 for the day, and permits can be purchased using the ParkMobile app or through ticket machines onsite. ParkMobile allows riders to simply input the station zone number (which can be found through the app and will be posted on station signage and on station pages on the Caltrain website) as well as the number of the parking space. To use the app, customers must create an account by entering an email address, payment method, and license plate number.
