Caltrain Delivers Fans to Austria vs. Jordan for the Second Bay Area FIFA World Cup Match

World Cup soccer returns to the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium on Tuesday, June 16, and Caltrain is ready to deliver fans to the pitch for the 9 p.m. kickoff between Austria and Jordan. On Saturday, June 13 nearly 7,000 fans rode Caltrain to and from the Qatar vs. Switzerland match.

Fans looking to skip the traffic can take advantage of Caltrain’s service every 30 minutes all day as well as its limited and express service from 3-8 p.m., and ride to Mountain View Station. From there, riders can connect directly to VTA light rail service and ride to the stadium. Caltrain will have extra northbound trains on standby to accommodate crowds if necessary and has extended its service hours to ensure that fans can get home after the match, with an additional northbound train departing at 12:28 a.m. or when full, and the last northbound train of the evening scheduled to accommodate the last VTA light rail trip, departing Mountain View Station at 1:28 a.m. The last southbound train of the evening will depart at 1:04 a.m.

People from all over the world are visiting the Bay Area for the World Cup, and they’ll be checking out attractions from San Francisco to San Jose. Fan events and watch parties are happening throughout the Peninsula, many of which are easily accessible via Caltrain. Caltrain will have ambassadors posted at major stations on game days to help new riders navigate the system for the first time.

Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system that requires riders to pay their fare before boarding. Clipper® is the all-in-one reloadable transit card for the Bay Area — and a convenient way to pay your Caltrain fare – but riders can now also simply tap their contactless credit card or digital wallet at the Clipper reader to pay for a ride.

Riders without Clipper or those travelling in a group can purchase a joint VTA/Caltrain Day Pass via Token Transit, or at the Ticket Vending Machines. Youth Fares are $1 for a one-way ticket, and $2 for a youth day pass for passengers 18 and under.

Caltrain reminds customers that open alcoholic beverages are allowed on trains until 9 p.m. during regular service. Disruptive passengers will be asked to leave Caltrain property.

Paid parking rules are enforced throughout the day, including on weekends and holidays. Parking at Caltrain stations costs $5.50 for the day, and permits can be purchased using the ParkMobile app or through ticket machines onsite. ParkMobile allows riders to simply input the station zone number (which can be found through the app and will be posted on station signage and on station pages on the Caltrain website) as well as the number of the parking space. To use the app, customers must create an account by entering an email address, payment method, and license plate number. Parking at Mountain View Station is limited, so riders expecting to drive to the station to ride VTA should plan on arriving early or parking at a different Caltrain station and riding to Mountain View.

Since the launch of electrified service, Caltrain has provided cleaner air for communities along the corridor and faster, more frequent service for riders throughout the San Francisco Peninsula with a state-of-the-art electric fleet featuring modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi, power outlets, baby changing tables in the bathroom and much more.
