Caltrain to Deliver Fans to the World Cup Pitch this Summer

The world’s game comes to the Bay Area this summer and Caltrain is ready to provide the assist and connect fans with World Cup matches and other celebrations. The first local match of the tournament will take place at noon on Saturday, June 13 and the final match is scheduled for Wednesday, July 1.

San Francisco Bay Area (Levi’s) Stadium in Santa Clara will host all six of the local matches. To get to the pitch, fans can skip the traffic and take Caltrain to Mountain View Station, which will run half-hourly trains to all games, weekday and weekend. From there, riders can connect directly to VTA light rail service to the stadium.

Parking at Mountain View Station is expected to fill up early, so fans are encouraged to park at other stations along the corridor and ride Caltrain to Mountain View for the connection to VTA.

Additional service will be planned for the three late night games on June 16, 19 and 22 so fans can safely return home after the match. Stay tuned to Caltrain’s social media channels to learn about additional World Cup events that can easily be accessed via our trains.

Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system that requires riders to pay their fare before boarding. Clipper® is the all-in-one reloadable transit card for the Bay Area — and a convenient way to pay your Caltrain fare – but riders can now also simply tap their contactless credit or debit card or digital wallet at the Clipper reader to pay for a ride.

Riders without Clipper or a contactless credit or debit card can purchase tickets at station ticket machines; tickets are not sold on board. Youth Fares are $1 for a one-way ticket, and $2 for a youth day pass for passengers 18 and under. Token Transit is also accepted on both Caltrain and VTA  for riders hoping to avoid using the ticket vending machines and clipper readers.

Caltrain reminds customers that open alcoholic beverages are allowed on trains until 9 p.m. during regular service. Disruptive passengers will be asked to leave Caltrain property.

Paid parking rules are enforced throughout the day, including on weekends and holidays. Parking at Caltrain stations costs $5.50 for the day, and permits can be purchased using the ParkMobile app or through ticket machines onsite. ParkMobile allows riders to simply input the station zone number (which can be found through the app and will be posted on station signage and on station pages on the Caltrain website) as well as the number of the parking space. To use the app, customers must create an account by entering an email address, payment method, and license plate number.
