Simplified Service Patterns

With electrified service, we’ve introduced a more straightforward set of service patterns to make your trip easier. Each service type generally runs on a consistent “clockface” schedule, meaning departures occur at the same times each hour. For example, most weekday Express trains will depart San Jose Diridon at 22 minutes past the hour and most weekday locals will depart San Jose at 28 minutes and 58 minutes past the hour.

  • Express Trains: Our fastest service, connecting San Francisco to San Jose in an hour and serving 11 of our most popular stations.
  • Limited Trains: Serve 16 stations for faster service.
  • Local Trains: Serve every station, with weekend service including Broadway Station and select weekday trains serving College Park Station.

South County Connector Service

South Santa Clara County passengers can take the South County Connector service from Gilroy, San Martin, Morgan Hill, Blossom Hill and Capitol stations.

San Jose Diridon Cross-Platform Transfer

Diesel trains will continue to serve South Santa Clara County passengers with four round-trip trains between San Jose Diridon and Gilroy each weekday (except holidays and modified schedule days). A three-minute cross-platform transfer at the San Jose Diridon Station makes it easy for passengers to transfer between the electric and diesel trains.

For late northbound South County Connector trains, Express trains can be held up to two minutes, and Limited trains up to five minutes, to accommodate transfers. In cases of longer delays, passengers will need to transfer to the next Local train. In the afternoon/evening southbound direction, South County Connector trains will hold when possible, with the last South County Connector train (#822) holding as late as needed to ensure all connecting passengers are accommodated.
