Discover the Heart of San Mateo
San Mateo is home to a bustling and busy downtown, served by San Mateo Station. Located on B Street, Caltrain riders have immediate access to a wide range of restaurants, bars, and shops. Much of B Street was converted to a pedestrian-only avenue, making it easier than ever to enjoy the sunshine while partaking in everything from momos to bruschetta.
San Mateo’s Cinemark Century Theater is also located just a block and a half away from the station.
A five-minute walk will deliver you to Central Park, a large urban park with a Japanese tea garden designed by the landscape architect of the Imperial Palace of Tokyo.
San Mateo also has a first-class library, just a short walk down 3rd Avenue from the station.
I would also be remiss if I didn’t call attention to the Takahashi Market; opened in 1906, this is still the best place to get musubi that doesn’t involve getting on a plane first.
With all the development happening in the immediate proximity of the station, it’s safe to say there will be plenty of new places worth checking out in the very near future.
