What happened to the traditional Holiday Train show?
With Caltrain’s new electric fleet, the equipment used for the traditional show train is no longer compatible. As a result, the staged performance is no longer part of the event.
Why did Caltrain change the Holiday Train format?
The shift to electric trains supports Caltrain’s commitment to cleaner, quieter and more sustainable service. The change means older rail cars used for the stationary show can’t operate on the new system.
Will there still be a Holiday Train this year?
Yes. The Holiday Train continues as a festive on-board experience featuring holiday décor and activities as the train travels between stations.
How can I get tickets?
Tickets will be available starting Nov. 20 for the Northbound and Southbound trips. Seats are limited, so buy early.
Can I see the train without a ticket?
Yes. Free station celebrations will take place at San Francisco, San Mateo, Palo Alto and San Jose Diridon stations.
What if tickets sell out?
You can still enjoy the fun by visiting one of the station events or riding a regular Caltrain to local holiday celebrations along the corridor.
Will the show train return in the future?
No. The new electric fleet replaces the older equipment used for the stationary show, so the traditional format will not return.
Is the Holiday Train accessible?
Yes. Electric trains have ADA accessible boarding at stations, accessible restrooms and priority seating. For more information, call 1.800.660.4287 or visit caltrain.com/accessibility.
Can I bring a stroller or bike?
Space is limited. Please check event details before traveling.
