South San Francisco Caltrain Station Improvement Project
Caltrain, in coordination with the City of South San Francisco, is preparing to replace the existing South San Francisco Station with a new center boarding platform connecting to a pedestrian underpass. The project consists of track work, signal work, a new 700 foot center board platform with amenities and connectivity to a new pedestrian underpass from the platform to Grand Avenue/Industrial Way. The project improves safety by eliminating the hold out rule and will provide increased connectivity along Grand Avenue for the City of South San Francisco. The improvements will also make the station fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Weekly Construction Update - March 17 to March 23
Friday, March 16to Friday, March 23, crews will continue track work and construction of the temporary station platform to be used during the duration of the project. Track work will consist of cutting rail, resurfacing rail and placing ballast. These activities will be performed during both day and night shifts. Neighbors may hear additional noises from heavy machinery and equipment backup alarms. We apologize for any inconvenience these activities may occur.

Update on Station Parking - As of December 21, 2017
As part of the South San Francisco Station Project, the contractor will utilize a portion of the station parking lot for staging of equipment and materials. There will be limited parking available at the South San Francisco Station starting January 8th, 2018. Approximately 30 parking spots will be maintained for customer use at this time. Riders are advised to adjust their commute accordingly. Additional changes to parking may be required to accommodate future construction activities.
Community Impacts During Construction
Work to complete the station improvements is scheduled to start January 2018 and is expected to span two years.
To avoid impacting rail operations, some construction will take place during nights and weekends. Due to the nature of the construction, there will be temporary, localized noise impacts due to site clearing and construction activities.
Caltrain will be communicating with residents, businesses and other interested members of the public to discuss the project in more detail. Stakeholders will be provided with various opportunities to engage with the project team and learn more about the project.
