Caltrain offers fans a convenient way to reach Levi’s Stadium for the San Francisco 49ers’ home opener against the Miami Dolphins at 1:25 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20.
Fans can skip traffic and parking by taking Caltrain’s weekend service, which runs every 30 minutes throughout the day, to Mountain View Station. From there, riders can connect directly to VTA light rail service to Levi’s Stadium. Weekend Caltrain service will not operate between Tamien and San Jose Diridon stations Sept. 19-20 because of Guadalupe River Bridge construction. The suspension will not affect weekday service or Caltrain riders not traveling to Tamien Station.
The game also coincides with a full closure of northbound U.S. 101 in San Francisco between Cesar Chavez Street and 17th Street. Caltrans will close the freeway from 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, through 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, for pavement repairs. Caltrain provides a reliable alternative for fans traveling between San Francisco, the Peninsula and the South Bay.
Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system, and riders must pay before boarding. Riders can pay with a physical or digital Clipper card, or tap a contactless credit or debit card or digital wallet at a Clipper validator. Riders using Clipper, a contactless bank card or a digital wallet must tap on before boarding and tap off after exiting to avoid incorrect charges. Contactless bank-card payments are available for adult fares only.
Riders can also purchase paper tickets at station ticket vending machines. Those traveling on both Caltrain and VTA can purchase a joint adult Caltrain + VTA Day Pass at their origin station. The pass is valid on Caltrain through the end of service and on VTA local buses and light rail until 3 a.m. Riders should not purchase the joint pass at Mountain View Station.
Open alcoholic beverages are permitted on Caltrain trains until 9 p.m. Caltrain may remove disruptive passengers from the system.
Paid parking rules are enforced daily, including weekends and holidays. Daily parking costs $5.50 and is available through the ParkMobile app or station ticket vending machines. Parking at Mountain View Station is limited, so fans driving to a Caltrain station should arrive early or consider parking at another station and riding to Mountain View.
Since launching electrified service, Caltrain has delivered faster, more frequent service with a modern electric fleet. Trains offer amenities including free Wi-Fi, power outlets and baby changing tables.
