Portola is back, and with limited parking near the venue and half-hourly weekend Caltrain service, concertgoers know Caltrain is their best transportation option. The two-day music festival is hosted at San Francisco’s Pier 80 on Saturday, Sept. 20, and Sunday, Sept. 21, at 1:00 p.m., and is approximately a mile walk or a short ride on the Muni T-line from Caltrain’s 22nd Street Station.
Caltrain will be operating its regular weekend service during both days of the concert, which is a short walk from the 22nd Street Station. The last two southbound trains for the evening depart 22nd Street Station at 11:30 p.m. and 12:10 a.m. The 22nd Street Station is only accessible by stairs, passengers with accessibility needs should use San Francisco Station where they can transfer to the T-line.
Whether you tap your Clipper card, use the Clipper app, or pay with Clipper on your phone’s wallet (Apple or Google), it’s the most convenient — and most affordable — way to ride Caltrain. Clipper offers automatic discounts, including:
- Clipper START: 50% off standard fares for eligible riders
- Youth fare: Just $1 one-way or $2 for a Day Pass for riders 18 and under
Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system, which means tickets are not sold onboard. If not using Clipper, you can buy your ticket:
- At station ticket machines
- Through the Caltrain Mobile App (the app will be retired by the end of October)
Mobile Day Passes are valid from the time of purchase through the end of that service day. For a smoother experience — especially when heading to events or during peak hours — buy your fare in advance.
Parking at Caltrain stations costs $5.50 for the day, and permits can be purchased using the Caltrain mobile app or through ticket machines onsite. The mobile app can be used immediately after parking, as it requires a space number. Paid parking rules are enforced throughout the day, including weekends and holidays.
Caltrain reminds customers that open alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the trains beginning at 9 p.m. on special event days.
