Caltrain Offers Post-Event Service for Metallica Concert at Chase Center

This Friday and Sunday, September 6 and 8, Metallica and San Francisco Symphony are kicking off the Chase Center’s grand opening with a concert celebrating the 20-year anniversary of their historic joint performance of the band’s 1999 S&M album. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. on both nights.

On Friday, Caltrain will operate its regular weekday schedule, which has the last train departing from San Francisco after the concert at 12:05 a.m., making all local weekday stops to San Jose.

On Sunday, in addition to its regular weekend schedule, Caltrain will operate one special southbound train after the concert, which departs San Francisco Station at 12:05 a.m., making all local weekend stops to San Jose.

Concert attendees can ride Caltrain to the San Francisco Station and either walk 15-20 minutes or transfer to the Muni T-Third line for service to/from Chase Center.

Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system. Tickets are not sold onboard trains but can be purchased at station ticket machines. In order to avoid the long lines that often accompany major events, passengers are encouraged to buy a Day Pass or use the Caltrain Mobile ticketing app.

Caltrain reminds fans to drink responsibly and to remember that open alcoholic beverages are prohibited on trains beginning at 9 p.m.

Parking at Caltrain stations costs $5.50 for the day, and permits can be purchased at Caltrain station ticket machines. Paid parking rules are enforced throughout the day.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
