Caltrain Delivers 49ers’ Faithful to Levi’s® Stadium

As the Forty Niners’ prepare for the start of their season, Caltrain remains the fans’ choice for traveling to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

Kickoff for the first game of the season against the Carolina Panthers is set for Sunday, September 10, at 1:25 p.m., and Caltrain will be providing a special southbound express train to the Mountain View station, departing from San Francisco at 10:45 a.m. The train will make stops at Millbrae, San Mateo, Hillsdale, Redwood City and Palo Alto. Caltrain will also operate its regular weekend service along the Peninsula.

From the Mountain View Caltrain Station, fans will be able to board Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) light-rail vehicles to the stadium.

Following the game on Saturday, Caltrain will operate a special northbound train, which will depart about 75 minutes after the game, or when full. That train will make all local stops to San Francisco, including the Atherton and Broadway stations. Additional details about service on 49ers’ game days can be found here.

Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system; tickets are not sold on board trains but can be purchased at ticket machines at the stations. Caltrain riders receive a free transfer to VTA local and light rail if they have at least a 2-zone ticket (1-zone for senior and disabled riders) or a Caltrain monthly pass via Clipper. In addition, adult riders can purchase a Joint Caltrain+VTA Day Pass that will cover you on Caltrain until the last train and on VTA local buses and light rail until 3 a.m.

Caltrain reminds fans to drink responsibly and to remember that alcohol is not allowed on game-day trains beginning at 9 p.m. Food and beverage aren’t allowed on VTA.

Parking at Caltrain stations costs $5.50 for the day, and permits can be purchased at Caltrain station ticket machines. Paid parking rules are enforced throughout the day.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain has enjoyed more than five years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 65,000 average weekday riders earlier this year. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
