Fleet Week returns to San Francisco, and Caltrain offers a convenient way for Bay Area residents to avoid traffic and get close to the waterfront festivities.
The annual celebration features naval ships, vessel tours and aerial performances over San Francisco Bay. The air shows are scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 through Sunday, Oct. 11. Riders can disembark at Caltrain’s San Francisco Station and connect to Muni’s 30-Stockton bus, which provides service to within a few blocks of Marina Green, to experience the air show from one of San Francisco’s premier viewing locations. Crissy Field and Aquatic Park are also good locations.
Caltrain will operate its regular weekday schedule on Friday and its half-hourly service throughout the weekend, giving riders an easy way to travel to San Francisco and enjoy the festivities.
With thousands expected to attend, taking transit can help visitors avoid the challenges of driving and parking in San Francisco while enjoying one of the Bay Area’s signature fall events.
Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system, and riders must pay before boarding. Riders can pay with a physical or digital Clipper card, or tap a contactless credit or debit card or digital wallet at a Clipper validator. Riders using Clipper, a contactless bank card or a digital wallet must tap on before boarding and tap off after exiting to avoid incorrect charges. Contactless bank-card payments are available for adult fares only.
Open alcoholic beverages are permitted on Caltrain trains until 9 p.m. Caltrain may remove disruptive passengers from the system.
Paid parking rules are enforced daily, including weekends and holidays. Daily parking costs $5.50 and is available through the ParkMobile app or station ticket vending machines.
