San Carlos Transit Center
Project

North Parking Lot Closure

The parking lot on the north side of the San
Carlos Caltrain Station will be permanently closed as of Tuesday, July 18, at 2
a.m. Caltrain riders are encouraged to park at the newly-completed south lot
located at El Camino Real and Cherry Avenue.

The north lot has been closed in order to be
redeveloped as part of the San Carlos Transit Village. Construction will begin
shortly on the next phase of the project, which when completed will include 200
new apartment units. All cars must be removed from the north lot as of 4 a.m.
on July 18 or vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Currently, the south lot can only be accessed
via El Camino Real while heading north. Caltrain is awaiting Department of
Transportation approval to install a new traffic signal and roadway
improvements at the intersection of El Camino Real and Cherry Avenue to allow
for left turns.

Designated ADA and Depot Café parking will
still be accessible through the San Carlos Avenue entrance.

Night/Weekend Work

There is no night or weekend work scheduled at the San
Carlos Transit Center Project.

Weekday Work

Monday, July 17 to Friday
July 21, crews will continue parking
lot improvements, including curb and gutter work along El Camino Real. Neighbors
may experience construction noise and traffic during this time. We apologize
for the inconvenience. El Camino Real traffic may also be reduced to one lane
during construction activities.

Some
parking spaces in the Caltrain parking lot and along the eastside of El Camino
between Cherry and Arroyo have been permanently removed as part of the project.
Caltrain customers are encouraged to park at the Belmont Caltrain Station
during construction.

Background
The San Carlos Multi-Modal Transit Center Project (Transit Center) is
located on the west side of the railroad corridor at the site of the existing
San Carlos Caltrain Station. The Transit Center project consists of
transforming the existing San Carlos Caltrain Station parking lot into a
multi-modal transit center that will better serve the community by improving
safety and accessibility between SamTrans fixed route bus services, Caltrain
commuter rail services, local shuttles, pedestrians and bicyclists. For more
information on the project, please visit
www.samtrans.com/sctc.

The
Transit Center project is part of the larger mixed-use transit-oriented
development, the San Carlos Transit Village, which is a joint development
between SamTrans and Prometheus Real Estate Group.  For information about the San Carlos Transit
Village Project visit:

Los Gatos Creek Bridge Replacement Project Weekly
Update

Night/Weekend Work
As part of the Los Gatos Creek Bridge Project, there is night work
scheduled on Friday, July 14 through Friday, July 21. Crews will mobilize
equipment on site in preparation of the precast girder installment. Crews will
also continue installation of tail track turnout and rebar work on the
retaining wall. To limit the impact to railroad operations, these activities
must be conducted at night or on the weekend when there is limited or no train
service.

Friday, July 21 to Sunday
July 23, crews will be installing pre-cast concrete bridge girders for the tail
track.

Additional night work will
be required throughout the project.

During the night and weekend
work, neighbors will hear additional noises from heavy machinery and from
equipment backup alarms. In addition, generators will be used for night time
activities to power portable light towers. Caltrain will implement noise
mitigation measures for residents directly adjacent to the project site. We
apologize for any inconvenience these activities may cause.

Weekday Work
Monday,
July 11 to Friday, July 14, crews will perform rebar and form
work on the bridge columns and prepare for the pre-cast bridge girder
installation.

Background
Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of San Jose,
is preparing to replace the railroad bridge crossing at Los Gatos Creek in
San Jose. The current bridge was built in 1935, and in order to maintain safe
rail operations and meet current seismic safety standards, the bridge must be
replaced. The project will also include installation of a tail track south of
the San Jose Diridon station. The tail track will provide improved operations
at the station and minimize system-wide delays. Construction is expected to be
complete in early 2018.

In
order to maintain regular train service, some activities will be conducted
during nights and weekends, outside of normal train service hours. Neighbors
may experience construction noise and light during these times. We apologize
for any inconvenience this may cause.

information on the Los Gatos Creek Bridge Replacement Project, please visit www.caltrain.com/losgatos.

project, please call the Caltrain Construction Hotline at 650.508.7726 or email

Peninsula
Corridor Electrification Project

The Peninsula Corridor
Electrification Project (PCEP) is a key component of the Caltrain Modernization
program. The PCEP would electrify the Caltrain Corridor from San Francisco’s 4th
and King Caltrain Station to approximately the Tamien Caltrain Station.

The primary purpose of the Project
is to improve Caltrain system performance, reduce long-term environmental
impact by reducing noise, improving regional air quality and reducing
greenhouse gas emissions. An electrified Caltrain system would better address
Peninsula commuters’ vision of increased service and improved travel times
in an environmentally friendly and reliable way. This also is
expected to help accommodate increase system ridership through improved system
operations.

Maintenance

Caltrain will perform routine maintenance at several locations next week. To
avoid disruptions to service, the work will mainly take place Saturday through
Friday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. For more information about this type of work,
click
here,
or call 650.508.7726.

San Francisco to San Jose

Saturday, July 15, to Friday, July 21, crews will
pressure wash and perform janitorial work at Caltrain stations between the San
Francisco and Tamien stations.

Monday, July 17, to Friday, July 21, crews will
weld and grind rail at various locations between the San Francisco and Tamien
stations. The welding crew uses air compressors, gas-powered generators, small
power tools, electric-arc welders and propane heaters. Neighbors may experience
construction noise during this time. Crews will work as quietly as possible.

San Francisco to Brisbane

Monday, July 17, to Friday, July 21, crews will
resurface rail between the San Francisco and Brisbane stations. Resurfacing
corrects the alignment of uneven rails to make them smooth, minimizing the
jerks and bumps experienced by passengers and reducing the mechanical strain on
the rails. Neighbors may experience construction noise during this time. Crews
will work as quietly as possible.

Atherton to Palo Alto

Monday, July 17, to Friday, July 21, crews will
replace ties between the Atherton and Palo Alto stations. Caltrain uses several
different on-track, self-propelled machines to replace cross ties, and
neighbors may experience construction noise during this time. Crews will work
as quietly as possible.
