Grade Crossing Improvement Project - 2021
In 2021, Caltrain with our city partners in Menlo Park and San Mateo worked to improve safety at five intersections where the train tracks cross a street (known as "grade crossings"). Improvements included more clearly-marked pedestrian crossings with new paint striping and lettering, pavement markers, and the installation of a fixed median with flexible bollards. The median is designed to prevent motorists from driving around lowered crossing gates.
Grade crossing improvement sites include:
1st Ave. and S. Railroad Ave., San Mateo
2nd Ave. and S. Railroad Ave., San Mateo
3rd Ave. and S. Railroad Ave., San Mateo
Glenwood Ave. and Garwood Way, Menlo Park
Oak Grove Ave. and Merrill St, Menlo Park
Schedule
All active construction planned for this project in Menlo Park and San Mateo has been completed. We've appreciated the community's patience and cooperation as we've worked to improve the safety of these crossings.
