This weekend, Aug. 8–9, Caltrain is suspending train travel between Tamien and San Jose Diridon stations to complete necessary repairs to the Guadalupe River Bridge.
Additional closures are planned for the weekends of Aug. 22–23 and Sept. 19–20. Initially, closures were planned for July 24–25, but that was canceled after Caltrain construction crews completed some of their work ahead of schedule.
Caltrain’s weekday service will be unaffected by construction, and Caltrain riders not traveling to Tamien Station should not be affected by construction.
The Guadalupe Bridge Replacement Project is a critical safety project that will complete the bridge deck and trackwork, replacing the original bridge built in 1935. Additionally, the project will protect the creek from erosion, allowing for a healthy and flourishing aquatic habitat. Construction takes place primarily during daylight hours.
Work in this area is complex, due to the need to protect the environment of the Guadalupe River. The total project cost is approximately $171 million.
So far this “dry” season, Caltrain has completed the placement of the bridge deck. Caltrain is expected to finish the bridge construction by October.
