Caltrain Offers Free New Year’s Service, Additional Trains for the Fireworks in San Francisco

Caltrain is running free service for New Year’s so revelers can get a safe ride home at the end of their evening. All rides will be free starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, until the end of special late-night service as it has in years past.

Saturday, December 31, 2022 – New Year’s Eve and Fireworks

Caltrain will be operating regular weekend schedule with two additional northbound special trains in time for the fireworks. Additional southbound trains will depart from San Francisco making all local stops to San Jose Diridon after the fireworks, with the last train leaving San Francisco at 2 a.m.  SF MUNI will provide additional post-fireworks service connecting with Caltrain San Francisco Station.

Sunday, January 1, 2023 – New Year’s Day

Caltrain will operate a weekend schedule. Caltrain will resume collecting fares when service begins around 7 a.m.

Monday, January 2, 2023 – Observed New Year’s Day

Caltrain will operate a weekend schedule.

Caltrain recommends face coverings for all riders. Caltrain reminds customers that open alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the trains beginning at 9 p.m. on special events days and nights. Disruptive passengers will be asked to leave the train.

The administrative offices of the San Mateo County Transit District, which manages Caltrain, will be closed on New Year’s Day. Caltrain customer service is available on December 31 through January 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
