28th Avenue to Open, 25th to Close as Part of 25th Avenue Grade Separation Project

Today, the new grade separated east-west connection at 28th Avenue was opened to traffic, as some of the lanes on the East 25th Avenue connection were temporarily closed as part of the 25th Avenue Grade Separation Project. When completed, the project will allow traffic to cross the Caltrain corridor without crossing the tracks at 25th, 28th and 31st Avenues.

28th Avenue will function as the primary means of getting between El Camino Real and Delaware Avenue for the four months required to lower the road at East 25th Avenue. The eastbound lanes at East 25th Avenue will be completely closed, while one westbound lane remains open. The 31st Avenue connection is expected to open to the public in fall 2021. These new grade-separated roads will improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians and will reduce local traffic congestion.

This project will also deliver a new Hillsdale Station, which should open to the public this spring. Upon completion of construction, the new station will be relocated about one block north of its previous location, between 28th and 31st Avenues. The new station will have an elevated center-boarding platform allowing for safer, more convenient pedestrian access.
