After spending two days away from home, Roo, a frightened 2-year-old pit bull mix, was found huddled inside a Caltrain tunnel in San Francisco. What followed was a heartwarming rescue made possible through teamwork, patience and a shared commitment to safety.
When Caltrain crews spotted Roo along the tracks, they quickly coordinated with San Francisco Animal Care and Control to safely reach him. The operation required careful planning to protect both Roo and his rescuers, including halting train service for about a half-hour on Saturday evening. During that time, rescuers carefully leashed Roo and led him safely out of the tunnel.
Best of all, a veterinarian examined Roo, found him to be in good health and reunited him with his owner using information linked to his microchip.
“Caltrain prohibits good boys from accessing the tracks, so we immediately extracted Roo so he could resume being a good boy,” said Caltrain Public Information Officer Dan Lieberman.
Every day, Caltrain employees work to keep the railroad safe for riders, employees and the communities we serve. In this case, that mission included helping a four-legged visitor in need.
