Do you ever have one of those weeks when Friday is too long of a wait to unwind? If so, the best time to have them is the first week of the month, because thanks to Downtown First Thursdays (DFT), San Francisco is rolling out the red carpet with a block party featuring live music and entertainment, and it’s happening just a short walk from Caltrain’s San Francisco Station.
Haven’t been yet? Here’s the rundown. First of all, this all-ages event is free (save some time and grab your tickets in advance). Running from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday (naturally), April 2, this particular DFT features a performance by Reggie Watts from 7:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. But the fun doesn’t stop there, as you’ll also find food trucks, shopping, fashion, drag, happy hour specials at outdoor bars, all happening amidst a giant outdoor dance party. Better yet, the whole neighborhood is getting in on the action, with local destinations like the Museum of the African Diaspora and the 111 Minna Gallery staying open and inviting the crowds in for a little culture alongside the cutting of rugs.
Now that spring is here, there’s no better time to head up to the city to enjoy what it has to offer, and DFT brings a lot of what makes San Francisco incredible into one convenient location. And with Caltrain’s convenient half hourly service, it’s never been easier to hop on board, enjoy a drink, hop off at 4th and King streets and get yourself on the dance floor.
