We at Caltrain are proud to celebrate Filipino American History Month in October. Filipino Americans are an integral part of the Caltrain family and continue to contribute toward the agency’s success.

Filipino Americans have called the San Francisco Peninsula home for hundreds of years and they make up one of the largest Asian American ethnic groups in the United States today. Filipino Americans are a vibrant community in the Bay Area with contributions in education, food, and culture. They have also had a profound influence through a strong commitment to family, faith, and an enduring work ethic.

Caltrain serves every community to create an inclusive environment and a survey shows that Filipinos and Filipino Americans make up 26% of Caltrain’s AAPI ridership. In addition to riders, Caltrain’s workforce is home to Filipino Americans as planners, operators, communicators, administrators, and safety and security personnel.

The month of October is an appropriate time to reflect on Filipino-American history and culture to provide all Americans with the opportunity to hear about and appreciate the many contributions of Filipino Americans.
