Hockey fans from across the region will be rooting for a big Sharks victory tonight, but if the home team needs another game to close out their playoffs series, Caltrain will be ready to add special service for Game 6 on Sunday at the SAP Center. The Sharks square off against the Los Angeles Kings at 7:30 p.m. tonight, and if San Jose wins they’ll move on to the Western Conference semifinals. In the event that the Sharks lose, Game 6 of the Western Conference’s first round series is tentatively scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. If that game is necessary, Caltrain will operate a special northbound train that is scheduled to depart the San Jose Diridon Station at 10:30 p.m., or 15 minutes after the game ends, but no later than 11 p.m. The train will make all regular local stops after it leaves Diridon Caltrain Station, which is located just across the street from the SAP Center. San Jose currently has a 3-1 series lead over the Kings. If the Sharks win Game 5 tonight in Los Angeles, they’ll advance to the semifinal round of the playoffs for the first time since 2013. Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system; tickets are not sold onboard trains but can be purchased at vending machines at the stations. To save time on the return trip, fans are encouraged to buy a Day Pass. Clipper card users (cash value and 8-ride tickets) are reminded to tag on and tag off. Open alcoholic beverage containers are not allowed onboard trains starting at 9 p.m. on game nights.
