BART Open Payments Pilot – Starting 8/20/2025
We’re excited to see BART piloting this convenient new contactless payment option. At this time, the pilot is BART-only and does not include SamTrans. We’re working closely with Clipper and regional partners to expand contactless payments in the future and look forward to collaborating when the full Next Generation Clipper system is ready.
If you transfer between BART and SamTrans and want to receive multi-agency fare discounts, you must use the same Clipper card for your entire trip. Using contactless payment on BART and Clipper on other agencies will not qualify for discounts.

Caltrain riders transferring to BART must use the upper concourse to access Platform 2, as Platform 3 will be closed for midday weekday track work. Follow station signage and staff directions.
BART Schedule Change August 11, 2025
BART and Caltrain are working together to better serve the region with continued schedule coordination to support transfers between systems at Millbrae Station. Schedules were designed to provide transfer wait times that are convenient for riders but also flexible enough to avoid missing connections or a just-missed connection if one or both systems are experiencing minor delays.
BART and Caltrain try to align schedules as best as possible, because Caltrain has four trains per peak hour and two trains per off-peak hour/weekends, while BART has three trains per hour at all times. Both systems are also limited in flexibility due to key system timing points elsewhere.
Both agencies have partnered to publish a helpful timetable showing the wait times of each connecting train.
