Hayward Park Set-Out TrackSign Up for Project Updates
The project will create a "set-out track" to replace one that was removed to facilitate the construction of the 25th Avenue Grade Separation Project. A "set-out track" is a storage space for train maintenance equipment. It typically includes a track approximately 1000’ in length and an access road. Equipment is stored there and accessed for future track maintenance work that will occur along the corridor.
The replacement set-out track will be inside the Caltrain right of way in between 9th and 14th Avenues. In determining the location of the new track maintenance area, a number of factors were considered, including proximity to the previous set-out track in Bay Meadows, tracks at ground-level, width and length requirements, track/road access, and compatibility with electrification infrastructure
To date, the work that has occurred at the potential set-out track consists of distributing soil at the location. In the near future, crews will hydroseed and install drainage ditches to prevent any excess runoff. In order to make the location a functional set-out track, additional installation work would be needed. A construction contract for additional installation work has not been issued and no installation work is expected until 2020. Prior to the start of any installation work, Caltrain will communicate with residents, businesses and other interested members of the public to discuss the project in more detail.
When soil is being moved into the area during pre-construction, crews will take steps to minimize impacts by installing drainage ditches. During the installation of the set-out track, due to the nature of construction there may be temporary, localized noise impacts. When the replacement set-out track is complete, it would likely be used accessed approximately one to two days per week as needed.
