Shuttles
When the JPB took over Caltrain from the State in 1992,
the shuttle program had four routes serving 620 passengers
per day. Today, Caltrain’s shuttle program has 33 routes,
with 4,300 riders on an average weekday, and that
number keeps growing.
Both the introduction of Baby Bullet Service in 2004
and the recovering economy have encouraged growth
in shuttle ridership, making the service a vital link
between Caltrain commuters and their employers.
Shuttles serve 20 of Caltrain’s 34 stations and carry
commuters to their worksite or within easy walking distance.
And while passengers pay a
fare on the train, Caltrain
shuttle rides are free. Shuttles are operated by private
contractors and are funded by a combination of funds from
Caltrain, employer contributions, the Bay Area Air Quality
Management District, and other regional and local sources.
Eight cities and more than 150 companies are involved in the
partnership, including Electronic Arts, Google, 3Com, Genentech,
Intel, Oracle, Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard. Cities
currently participating are Daly City, Brisbane, South San Francisco,
Burlingame, San Mateo, Foster City, Menlo Park and Palo Alto.
In addition to shuttles, Caltrain has convenient connections
with VTA, SamTrans, Muni, AC Transit, Dumbarton Express,
Monterey-Salinas Transit and the Highway 17 Express.
