Holiday Train

Caltrain's Holiday Train The 2007 Caltrain Holiday Train makes its annual appearance on the weekend of Dec. 7 through Dec. 9. Decorated with more than 40,000 lights, the Caltrain Holiday Train will visit nine stations along the Peninsula between San Francisco and Santa Clara over two weekend nights. Download the event poster HERE (PDF, 331 KB).

Festivities kick off Friday, Dec. 7 with a lighting ceremony at the San Francisco Caltrain Station at 5 p.m., featuring entertainment by the San Francisco Concert Chorale.

This free, family-oriented event draws thousands of visitors to train stations every year for a chance to sing along with live holiday music and meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and other holiday favorites, including Rudolph and Frosty.

More importantly, visitors are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys and books to drop into toy barrels at stations. Thousands of toys and books have been donated to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots Program and the Salvation Army, beneficiaries and partners in putting on the Caltrain Holiday Train.

In addition to a Caltrain gallery car and two flat cars, the train will include two historic passenger cars that were donated for use during the holiday train weekend. Santa and the other costumed characters will ride in style on the Virginia City and the Yosemite Falls, which were originally designed as private cars for the rich and famous.

The Caltrain Holiday Train would not be possible without support of our sponsors: Genentech, Inc.; Linear Technology Corp.; the Palo Alto Medical Foundation; Parsons; PB; and joint-venture partners Shimmick Construction Company Inc. and Balfour Beatty Rail Services, Inc.

Comcast, the Examiner and Radio Disney are the event’s media sponsors, and in-kind donations are being provided by Peterson Power Systems of San Leandro; Sierra Pacific Rail Inc. and Virginia City Rail Corporation. Among the events partners are Amtrak, Caltrain’s operator; the Salvation Army; the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, which helps decorate the train; and the Port of Redwood City, which provides space for the train to be decorated.
