Caltrain Board Recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month
The Caltrain of Directors passed a resolution honoring Hispanic Heritage Month at its October meeting.
“The Hispanic/Latinx community has been a part of this region’s history for so long, it predates even the building of this railroad,” said Caltrain Board Chair Dev Davis. “We at Caltrain wish to honor the many contributions of Hispanic Americans to our community and our nation.”
26% of Caltrain riders identify as Hispanic/Latino, with a survey from 2019 showing 11% of riders speak Spanish in the home. There was a substantial increase among this population over the course of the last year, which can be attributed both to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, as well as equity policies implemented by Caltrain, including increased off-peak service and improved connections to other local and regional transit systems.
Caltrain’s vision is to provide a safe, reliable, sustainable modern rail system that meets the growing mobility needs of the diverse communities that make up the San Francisco Bay Area region.
