Caltrain Delivers Fans to 49ers’ Preseason Games at Levi’s Stadium

As the San Francisco 49ers’ preseason approaches, Caltrain, in partnership with BART and VTA, remains the fans’ choice for traveling to Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium to see the action in person.

Kickoff for the preseason home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs takes place this Saturday, August 14, at 5:30 p.m. Caltrain will be operating its regular weekend service along the Peninsula.

From the Mountain View Caltrain Station, fans will be able to transfer to Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s (VTA) bus bridge while they work on restoring light rail service. The buses will be staged at Mountain View to meet trains and then express to the stadium. Direct, non-stop bus service will run from the Mountain View station, connecting with Caltrain’s hourly service, beginning at 2 p.m.

Post-game, direct non-stop bus service from Levi's Stadium back to Mountain View will run approximately one hour after the game. Following the game, Caltrain’s northbound trains will depart Mountain View at 9:03 p.m., 10:03 p.m. and last train at 11:03 p.m. Trains will make all weekend local stops (including Broadway station) to San Francisco.

Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system. Tickets aren’t sold onboard trains but can be purchased at station ticket machines. In order to avoid the long lines that often accompany major events, passengers are encouraged to buy a Day Pass or use the Caltrain Mobile ticketing app. On game day, riders can also purchase a Joint Caltrain+VTA Day Pass on the mobile app or at a ticket machine that will cover you on Caltrain until the last train and on VTA local buses and light rail until 3 a.m.

Caltrain reminds fans to drink responsibly and that open alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the trains beginning at 9 p.m. on special event days and nights. Food and beverage aren’t allowed on VTA.

Parking at Caltrain stations costs $5.50 for the day, and permits can be purchased using the Caltrain mobile app or through ticket machines onsite. Paid parking rules are enforced throughout the day.

Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
