Caltrain Delivers Fans to 49ers’ Preseason Games at Levi’s® Stadium

As the San Francisco 49ers’ preseason approaches, Caltrain remains the fans’ choice for traveling to Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium to see the action in person.

Kickoff for the preseason home opener against the Dallas Cowboys takes place Thursday, August 9, at 7 p.m. Caltrain will be operating its regular weekday service along the Peninsula.

From the Mountain View Caltrain Station, fans will be able to board Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) light-rail vehicles to the stadium.

Following the game on Thursday, Caltrain will operate a special northbound train, which will depart approximately 75 minutes after the game, or when full. That train will make all weekday local stops to San Francisco. Additional details about service on 49ers’ game days can be found here.

Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system. Tickets aren’t sold onboard trains but can be purchased at station ticket machines. In order to avoid the long lines that often accompany major events, passengers are encouraged to buy a Day Pass or use the Caltrain Mobile ticketing app. On game day, riders can also purchase a Joint Caltrain+VTA Day Pass on the mobile app or at a ticket machine that will cover you on Caltrain until the last train and on VTA local buses and light rail until 3 a.m.

Caltrain reminds fans to drink responsibly and to remember that alcohol is not allowed on game-day trains beginning at 9 p.m. Food and beverage aren’t allowed on VTA.

Parking at Caltrain stations costs $5.50 for the day, and permits can be purchased at Caltrain station ticket machines. Paid parking rules are enforced throughout the day.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain has enjoyed more than five years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 65,000 average weekday riders earlier this year. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
