Make Caltrain Part of Your Trip to Fleet Week in San Francisco
Spectators can use Caltrain to “fly” up to San Francisco for Fleet Week festivities on the city’s waterfront this week. The festivities, which includes a spectacular performance by the Blue Angels this weekend, began on Monday and will continue through October 14. Air shows will take place beginning at noon to 4 p.m. this weekend.
In addition to regular weekend service, Caltrain will operate one extra northbound express train on Saturday and Sunday, which departs from the San Jose Diridon Station at 9:41 a.m. and arrives at the San Francisco Station at 10:45 a.m.
Following the air show, Caltrain will provide extra post-event service as needed in addition to the regular weekend schedule. Extra service trains will make all weekend local stops.
Upon arrival at Caltrain’s San Francisco Station, passengers can transfer to Muni’s 30-Stockton bus for a connection to the Marina Green, where most of the week’s festivities will take place. Muni’s E-Embarcadero historic streetcar line is an option as well, as it runs from the San Francisco Caltrain Station to Fisherman’s Wharf.
San Francisco’s Fleet Week includes a parade of naval ships, tours of vessels, and, of course, aerial shows from the world famous Blue Angels flight exhibition team.
Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system. Tickets are not sold onboard trains but can be purchased at station ticket machines. In order to avoid the long lines that often accompany major events, passengers are encouraged to buy a Day Pass or use the Caltrain Mobile ticketing app.
Caltrain reminds customers to drink responsibly and to remember that open alcoholic beverages are prohibited on trains beginning at 9 p.m.
Parking at Caltrain stations costs $5.50 for the day, and permits can be purchased at Caltrain station ticket machines. Paid parking rules are enforced throughout the day.
