Temporary Closures at Broadway Avenue Crossing in Burlingame this Week

Beginning at 10 p.m. this Wednesday, Caltrain will begin performing foundation installation work at the Broadway Avenue railroad crossing in Burlingame.

The Broadway Avenue railroad crossing will be temporarily closed from Wednesday, January 30, at 10 p.m. to Thursday, January 31, at 5 a.m. to facilitate the installation of concrete foundations as part of Caltrain Electrification. Illuminated and directional signs will direct vehicle traffic to use Oak Grove Avenue as a detour on the night of the closure.  Pedestrian access will be unaffected.

A map of the project site and more information about these closures can be found by visiting calmod.org/burlingame and clicking on the Resources section.

Caltrain has established a dedicated project hotline and email for residents concerned about these potential impacts. The project information line can be reached at 650.399.9659, and the e-mail is calmod@caltrain.com.

The project is part of Caltrain Electrification, a key component of the Caltrain Modernization Program. Caltrain Electrification, scheduled to be operational by 2022, will electrify and upgrade the performance, operating efficiency, capacity, safety and reliability of Caltrain’s commuter rail service between Fourth and King Street Station in San Francisco and the Tamien Station in San Jose.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the system, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
