Caltrain to Increase Service, Offer Free Rides for New Year’s Eve
In an effort to encourage New Year’s revelers to enjoy their night safely and responsibly, Caltrain will provide free service on trains departing after 8 p.m. on Monday, December 31, until the last train departing the San Francisco station at 2 a.m. Tuesday, January 1. Trains will operate special event service on December 31 to accommodate the San Francisco fireworks show in addition to regular weekday service.
Monday, December 31, 2018 – New Year’s Eve
In addition to regular weekday service, Caltrain will operate two additional northbound limited service trains in the evening to San Francisco.
Caltrain will operate additional southbound trains after the San Francisco fireworks show. Departure times will vary depending on crowd size. The last train will depart the San Francisco station at 2 a.m. Post-firework trains will make all local weekend stops from San Francisco to San Jose.
Tuesday, January 1, 2019 – New Year’s Day
In observance of New Year’s Day, Caltrain will operate a holiday service schedule, which includes two northbound and southbound bullet trains between the San Jose Diridon and San Francisco stations. Shuttle bus service will operate between the San Jose Diridon and Tamien Caltrain stations. Trains will not provide service south of San Jose.
Caltrain does not allow open alcohol containers on trains after 9 p.m. Disruptive passengers will be asked to detrain.
The administrative offices of the San Mateo County Transit District, which manages Caltrain and SamTrans, and the 1st floor ticket sales booth will be closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Caltrain customer service is available on New Year’s Eve, December 31, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on New Year’s Day, January 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by phone at 1.800.660.4287.
