San Mateo Bridges: Seismic Rehabilitation
Overview
In early 2011, Caltrain began rebuilding the foundations of four railroad bridges that cross Tilton, Monte Diablo, Santa Inez and Poplar avenues in San Mateo. Caltrain completed the project in December 2011. The rebuild extended the life of the bridges, which are more than 100 years old. The bridges will be kept in a state-of-good repair until they are replaced, possibly as part of the California High-speed Rail project, which will operate along Caltrain’s right of way.
