November 18 to November 24, 2017

Night/Weekend Work
Borel Creek
On Saturday, November 18 and Sunday, November 19 during the day and night, and on Monday, November 20 to Wednesday, November 22 during the night, crews will be installing temporary shoring in the Caltrain right-of-way. Sheet piles, used for the temporary shoring, are a retention system where steel sheets are used to create a wall that provides lateral support. These are installed with a vibratory hammer. In an effort to mitigate the noise, crews plan to pre-drill prior to inserting the steel sheets

On Monday, November 20 to Wednesday, November 22, crews will continue installing temporary shoring in the Caltrain right-of-way. Sheet piles, used for the temporary shoring, are a retention system where steel sheets are used to create a wall that provides lateral support. These are installed with a vibratory hammer. In an effort to mitigate the noise, crews plan to pre-drill prior to inserting the steel sheets

Pedestrian Underpass (between 28th and 31st)
On Monday, November 20 to Wednesday, November 22 crews will be installing cast-in-drilled-hole piles within the Caltrain right-of-way. The piles are installed by drilling a borehole into the ground, which is then reinforced. Crews will then pour concrete into the borehole to form the pile.

When possible, work will be conducted during the day. However, due to the proximity of some activities relative to the railroad tracks, night work may be required throughout the project. In an effort to start construction earlier in the evening, Caltrain will be single tracking its trains on evenings when night work is scheduled. Please note the construction schedule is subject to change.

Neighbors will hear additional noises from heavy machinery and equipment backup alarms. Caltrain will implement noise mitigation measures for residents directly adjacent to the project site. We apologize for any inconvenience these activities may occur.

Weekday Work
On Monday, November 20 through Wednesday, November 22 pile acceptance testing will occur near the pedestrian underpass. During this time, crews will also be clearing shrubs and removing trees along the project area, and excavation will occur near 28th Avenue on the Caltrain right-of-way.

Also on Monday, November 20 through Wednesday, November 22 there will be some demolition and temporary shoring occurring near Borel Creek.

For riders, single tracking will occur on Monday, November 20 to Wednesday, November 22 starting at 8:00 p.m. until the evening's last train to allow for the installation of the temporary shoring.

Please also note, from Monday, November 20 to Wednesday, November 22, there may be lane closures on Delaware due to PG&E potholing work.

Background
Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of San Mateo, will raise the tracks and slightly lower the road (grade separate) at E. 25th Avenue in San Mateo. This will improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians, and it will reduce local traffic congestion in San Mateo. In addition, the project will create new east-west street connections at 28th and 31st Avenues; and as part of the project improvements, Caltrain will build a new elevated Hillsdale Station with updated amenities at E. 28th Avenue.

Construction is expected to be complete in early 2020. In order to maintain regular train service, some activities will be conducted during nights and weekends, outside of normal train service hours. Neighbors may experience construction noise and light during these times. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
