25th Avenue Grade Separation Weekly Construction Update
Week of February 10 to February 16, 2018
During the night on Saturday, February 10, and continuing at night on Monday, February 12 to Friday, February 16, there will be one lane open to traffic on 25th Avenue between El Camino Real and S. Delaware from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Flaggers will be assisting with traffic control. During the day on Saturday, February 10, there will be one lane in each direction open to traffic. Some street parking will be unavailable due to construction both day and night during this time and there will be partial sidewalk closures. Crews will be installing cast-in-drilled-hole piles within the Caltrain right-of-way. All businesses along E. 25th Avenue will remain open during construction.
When possible, work will be conducted during the day. However, due to the proximity of some activities relative to the railroad tracks, night work may be required throughout the project. In an effort to start construction earlier in the evening, Caltrain will be single tracking its trains on evenings when night work is scheduled. Please note the construction schedule is subject to change.
Neighbors may hear additional noises from heavy machinery and equipment backup alarms. Caltrain will implement noise mitigation measures for residents directly adjacent to the project site. We apologize for any inconvenience these activities may occur.
On Monday, February 12 to Friday, February 16, there will be one lane in each direction open to traffic on E. 25th Avenue between El Camino Real and S. Delaware. Street parking may be limited and flaggers may be assisting with traffic coordination at the railroad crossing. During this time, crews will be installing cast-in-drilled-hole piles. Caltrain will establish signs for pedestrians and motorists to help with traffic flow. All businesses along E. 25th Avenue will remain open during construction.
Also on Monday, February 12 to Friday, February 16, crews will:
• Work on the abutments at Borel Creek
• Excavate at 31st Avenue
• Pothole to determine the location of underground utilities
For riders, single tracking may occur at night to allow for the construction activities. To view a map of the temporary parking lot click here.
Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of San Mateo, will raise the tracks and slightly lower the road (grade separate) at E. 25th Avenue in San Mateo. This will improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians, and it will reduce local traffic congestion in San Mateo. In addition, the project will create new east-west street connections at 28th and 31st Avenues; and as part of the project improvements, Caltrain will build a new elevated Hillsdale Station with updated amenities at E. 28th Avenue.
Construction is expected to be complete in early 2020. In order to maintain regular train service, some activities will be conducted during nights and weekends, outside of normal train service hours. Neighbors may experience construction noise and light during these times. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
