Weekly Notification for the Week of May 19 to May 25, 2018

PG&E Pipeline Relocation Work

Overview

PG&E will begin  construction on May 21, with work anticipated to last through September. The first week of activity will involve setting up construction staging and fabrication areas. Construction equipment and materials will be delivered to the staging area and fencing and traffic control signage will be installed. PG&E Crews will work Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Depending on work progress, trench excavations between 25th Avenue and 28th Avenue are expected to begin mid-week.

Traffic Impacts and Road Closures
In order for PG&E to complete this work there will be lane and road closures a few blocks at a time on S. Delaware with detours in place through its duration. For the week of Monday, May to Friday, May 25, traffic control will be implemented with detours for through traffic onto Saratoga Drive north of the San Mateo Event Center and onto Franklin Expressway at the southern end of the project area. Lane closures will be in place between 25th Avenue and Derby Avenue. PG&E will clearly mark all work areas, and traffic flaggers will help to direct traffic. Please plan for minor delays and detours when driving through this area. Businesses on S. Delaware will be open as usual. We apologize for any inconvenience. Grade Separation Night/Weekend Work
At night, starting Monday, May 21 to Friday, May 25, the east and westbound lanes on Hillsdale Avenue under the bridge (tracks) will be narrowed (but still open) so crews can conduct field measurements.

Grade Separation Weekday Work
In addition to the PG&E pipeline relocation work (described above), on Monday, May 21 to Friday, May 25, crews will:
Work on the abutments and bents at the Pedestrian Underpass
Work on the abutments at 25th and 28th Avenues
Conduct field measurements at Hillsdale

Also on Monday, May 21 through Friday, May 25, there will be:
Partial lane closures on E. 25th Avenue between El Camino Real and S. Delaware. Street parking may be limited and flaggers may be assisting with traffic coordination at the railroad crossing. All businesses along E. 25th Avenue will remain open during construction. Caltrain will establish signs for pedestrians and motorists to help with traffic flow.
Partial lane closures between 9:00 a.m and 3:00 p.m. at Hillsdale Avenue under the bridge (tracks) so crews can conduct field measurements. Caltrain will establish signs for pedestrians and motorists to help with traffic flow.

Crews will also install an underdrain at the Pedestrian Underpass on Monday, May 21 to Wednesday, May 23.

We apologize for any inconvenience while this important safety improvement project is being constructed. To view a map of the temporary parking lot visit www.caltrain.com/25thgs (scroll down to “project resources”).

Background
Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of San Mateo, will raise the tracks and slightly lower the road (grade separate) at E. 25th Avenue in San Mateo. This will improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians, and it will reduce local traffic congestion in San Mateo. In addition, the project will create new east-west street connections at 28th and 31st Avenues; and as part of the project improvements, Caltrain will build a new elevated Hillsdale Station with updated amenities at E. 28th Avenue.

Construction is expected to be complete in early 2020. In order to maintain regular train service, some activities will be conducted during nights and weekends, outside of normal train service hours. Neighbors may experience construction noise and light during these times. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
