  • Tilton Avenue, San Mateo
  • Monte Diablo Street, San Mateo
  • Santa Inez Street, San Mateo
  • Poplar Avenue, San Mateo
  • Culvert near Paul Avenue, San Francisco

$4.6 million

Begin Construction:
October 2005

End Construction:
August 2006

Reason for Project:
The project will replace these existing bridges that have This project will improve passenger service and safety, by replacing two deteriorated bridges in San Mateo County and upgrading four bridges in San Jose to current seismic standards.

Scope of Work:
Each bridge has specific requirements, however, a general review of the scope of work that will be done during this project includes:

  • Replacing a rail top deck bridge in Redwood City with a new prefabricated steel deck structure.
  • Replacing a deteriorated bridge in Santa Clara with a new precast concrete bridge structure.
  • Structural modifications to four bridges in San Jose to meet current seismic code requirements.
  • Installation of steel crash beams at four low clearance bridges in San Mateo to protect them from vehicular impacts.
