Project Limits:
The project will occur at the San Francisco Caltrain Station
yard area, and extend into South San Francisco, Millbrae
and Burlingame.

Reason for Project:
This project is necessary to replace the aging San Francisco rail
terminal signal system infrastructure, yard track rail, ties and
switches. The project will also install track crossover switches
which will improve the routing flexibility of ”Baby Bullet” operations
and reduce trip travel time and delays.
Scope of Work:
The project includes:

Replacing the outdated signal system computer within
the San Francisco yard tower.

Removal of most of the outdated signal relays within the
signal house at Fourth Street, in San Francisco and relocation
of the wiring to the new computer system in the tower.

Installation of Automatic Train Control System and spread
spectrum communication systems and antennas.

Optimizing the signal system operation by modifying the
speed/route signal aspects.

Replacement of an existing yard track puzzle switch.

Rehabilitation of yard track switches

Replacing yard area pneumatic switch air lines.
-
Replace existing yard and platform track rail with new welded rail.

Removing the signal cantilever at Control Point Common, in San Francisco,
and installing a new one further north.

Improving track surface alignments throughout the yard area.

Repairing the damaged areas of Platform 12.
-
Improving the grades adjacent the southerly fence to permit walkway access.

Replacing 30% of yard and platform track ties.
-
Installing a new yard emergency backup electrical generator.

Make miscellaneous improvements behind the platform bumping posts,
such as; the addition of a red end of platform signal, new handrails,
concrete surface, utility trench and new air line reels.

Installing new drainage pipes at the inside lead area of the yard.

Constructing a service roadway to the maintenance tracks at the inside lead.

Removing miscellaneous debris, stockpiles and abandoned facilities at the yard.

Installation of new #20 high speed crossovers at Center and Trousdale, in Millbrae.

Installation of new #14 crossovers at Control Point Common in San Francisco.

Replacing existing #14 crossovers at Control Point Army in San Francisco.

Replacing a deteriorated bridge in Burlingame with a storm drain pipe

Repairing the bridge structure at Caesar Chavez (Army Street) in
San Francisco and waterproofing the bridge deck structure.
