Palo Alto Project
The Palo Alto Project includes renovations to the Palo Alto station, the California Avenue station and several small bridges that cross creeks in and around Palo Alto.
The $35 million construction project began in fall 2007. The work at the Palo Alto station is scheduled for completion by the end of 2008. The estimated completion date for the California Avenue station is late winter 2009.
Palo Alto Station
At the northern end of the station, the pedestrian underpass and the ramps leading to the platform will be modified to meet standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act. The at-grade pedestrian crossing will be removed. The boarding platforms will be replaced with new, longer platforms. New shelters for passengers needing assistance will be installed next to the manual wheelchair lift at the northern end of the platforms. The shelters have been modified to accommodate wheelchairs.
California Avenue Station
The improvements at this station will improve safety by replacing the at-grade pedestrian crossing with a pedestrian underpass. The center boarding platform will be replaced with outside boarding platforms. There will be a fence between the tracks to help keep passengers off the tracks.
A ticket vending machine will be located at the entrance to the pedestrian underpass so that people can buy their tickets before going to the northbound platform.
New shelters for passengers needing assistance will be located at the northern end of the platforms, next to the manual wheelchair lifts. The shelters have been modified to accommodate wheelchairs.
Bridges
Small bridges will be replaced at the following locations:
- Dinklespiel Station Lane and Maple Avenue, Atherton
- Oregon Expressway
- Alma Street and Colorado Avenue
- Alma Street and El Dorado Avenue
- Alma Street and El Carmelo Avenue
The work will be completed by fall 2008.
