December 4 Train Delays
Caltrain experienced significant delays Thursday, Dec. 4, as the result of a problem with the computer that operates the signal system. It took several hours to repair the system and this caused a significant impact on our service and customers. We regret any inconvenience it caused you.
Signals are used to safely move trains along the tracks into and out of sidings. In order to maintain service while the repairs were being made, maintenance personnel were able to temporarily lock the switches.
With each incident that causes a delay, we strive to improve our customer communications. For this incident, we used the public address and visual message systems at our stations. We also continued to update the media and posted information to our Web site.
Caltrain tickets were honored on all SamTrans buses and VTA Routes 22 and 522.
As a gesture of apology, all Caltrain rides were free from 1 p.m. to the end of the service day. We regret the delay and will continue to work to provide the service our customers expect.
