Caltrain Construction and Maintenance: Aug. 29 - Sept. 5, 2008

Construction

Palo Alto
From 10:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 29 until 4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 1, crews will rebuild the tracks at the California Avenue station. Passengers waiting for both northbound and southbound trains at the Palo Alto and California Avenue stations will board from the southbound platform. Ambassadors at the stations and train conductors will help direct passengers to the correct platform. This work is part of the Palo Alto stations project.

In addition, from Tuesday, Sept. 2 to Friday, Sept. 5, during the day, crews will continue to work during the day at the Palo Alto station on concrete forms and utilities and at the California Avenue station on concrete flatwork and utility trenching.

Maintenance

Train tracks need frequent maintenance to remain in good order. Caltrain will perform routine maintenance at several locations next week. To avoid train delays, the work will take place Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be some construction noise from equipment used to accomplish the work, but crews will work as quietly as possible. San Mateo and Belmont
From Monday, Sept. 1 to Thursday, Sept. 4, a crew will replace worn asphalt, rails, ties and ballast between the San Mateo and Belmont stations.

Sunnyvale and Santa Clara
From Monday, Sept. 1 to Thursday, Sept. 4, a crew will replace worn asphalt, rails, ties and ballast between the Sunnyvale and Santa Clara stations.

In addition, a crew will weld and grind the switches on the tracks near the San Clara station.
