Caltrain Board Elects Officers

Contact: Christine Dunn – 650.508.7927

The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, which runs Caltrain, elected new officers at its January board meeting.

Jim Hartnett was elected chair and Don Gage was elected vice chair in a unanimous vote.

Chair Hartnett, who represents San Mateo County on the JPB, also is a Redwood City councilman. Vice Chair Gage is a Santa Clara County supervisor and serves on the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority board.

During 2007, Caltrain experienced a growth of 9 percent in average weekday ridership. The commuter railroad also undertook several significant construction projects including a $35 million project to improve the Palo Alto train stations and a $20.5 million project to improve the Burlingame Caltrain Station.

The Caltrain board has nine members, with representatives from each of the three counties through which the rail service operates – San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara. The Caltrain board meets the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. at 1250 San Carlos Ave., San Carlos, two blocks from the train station.
