Freedom Train To Run On Martin Luther King Holiday Jan. 15

In addition to its regular weekday service on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Caltrain will run the annual Freedom Train, taking people to San Francisco for the holiday celebration there.

The Freedom Train is specially chartered by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Santa Clara Valley. Tickets only are available through the event sponsor. Regular Caltrain tickets are NOT valid on the Freedom train headed to San Francisco, however Freedom Train tickets will be honored by Caltrain on all southbound trains after noon on the day of the celebration.

The 22nd annual Freedom Train is scheduled to depart the San Jose Diridon Caltrain Station at 10:00 a.m., with stops to pick up passengers at Sunnyvale, Palo Alto and San Mateo, before discharging its 1,600 passengers in San Francisco. Freedom Train passengers are encouraged to arrive early at all stations so they can find parking and get to the boarding platform in plenty of time for the train’s departure.

From the San Francisco Caltrain Station at Fourth and King streets, Freedom Train passengers will take buses to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at the Civic Center. Buses will be available to take people back to the train station after the Civic Center events.

For Freedom Train schedule information or to purchase tickets, call 408.881.5464 or visit mlkscv.org.

Caltrain is a tri-county partnership of San Francisco Municipal Railway, San Mateo County Transit District and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
