Caltrain Announces Contest for Rail-Smitten Poets

Can you top that bit of love poetry? We think you can!

Caltrain is offering a chance for passengers and the public alike to express their love for Caltrain — in poetry. Inspired by the success of last year’s Romance on the Rails singles event, Caltrain is launching a contest to honor the best love poetry about Caltrain.

Caltrain will accept entries from Jan. 17, 2006 until Valentine’s Day. A panel of judges will select the top three poems and the winning authors will be announced on March 1. Prizes are listed on the other side of this card.

Why a poetry contest?

There’s a reason for this call for railroad rhymes. Love for trains – and Caltrain — is a fairly widespread syndrome, and once smitten, most people keep coming back for more. Witness the thousands of Caltrain riders who follow their hearts to the train station every morning – and back again in the evening. For a lucky few, the love connection proves more profound, when they meet a special someone and fall in love on the train.
