Caltrain Looking For Love - In 100 Poetic Words or Less
Caltrain is offering a chance for passengers and the
public alike to express their love for Caltrain — in poetry.
Inspired by the success of last year’s Romance on the Rails
singles event, Caltrain is launching a contest to honor the
best love poetry about Caltrain.
Caltrain is accepting entries for the contest through Valentine’s Day.
A panel of judges will select the top three poems, and prizes will
be awarded to the winning authors.
Why a poetry contest? The association between romance and trains
is a common one, and Caltrain often hears from riders who
profess their love for taking the train. A lucky few even
meet a special someone during the time they spend on the train,
and last year’s Romance on the Rails event highlighted the
possibility that a simple Caltrain ride can prove to be a
ticket to happiness.
With Valentine’s Day approaching, Caltrain decided to
carry on the “love connection” by giving people a chance
to put their feelings about Caltrain into poetry.
Complete contest rules
allow for poems to be written
in any form or style, from rhymed to free verse to haiku,
but limited to 100 words or less.
Any and all variations on the general theme of love and
Caltrain is a suitable subject for the poetry contest.
Caltrain will announce the winning poems on March 1.
The winners will be published in the Caltrain newsletter,
and Caltrain reserves the right to determine where else
they might be reproduced.
First prize is a two-night stay at the Pan Pacific Hotel
on Union Square, courtesy of the hotel. Second prize is
two Gourmet Express five-course dinners aboard the Napa
Valley Wine Train, donated by the Wine Train; and the
third prize is a Hornblower dinner cruise for two, courtesy
of Hornblower Cruises & Events.
Entries must be received by Caltrain by 5 p.m. Tuesday,
Feb. 14, 2006 at Caltrain Communications, Rail Poetry
