Caltrain Police Blitz Planned in Mountain View

Who:

Caltrain's Transit Police officers in partnership with officers from the City of Mountain View will conduct the third trespass abatement sweep of this year. The "zero tolerance" blitz is intended to heighten awareness that being on railroad property is both illegal and dangerous and that violators will be cited. The Amtrak Police and San Mateo County Sheriff's Transit Police will be joined by Mountain View police officers as they patrol the train tracks and stations.

When:

Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003
3 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Where:

Officers will kick-off the sweep with a briefing at 3 p.m. at the Mountain View Caltrain Station on Castro Street and West Evelyn Avenue. The area to be patrolled extends from Rengstorff Avenue to the Mountain View station.

What:

Officers will closely monitor the Rengstorff Avenue and Castro Street railroad crossings in addition to patrolling the rail corridor and the Mountain View station for trespassers and violators. Caltrain police are focussing on the area because of past problems, which include pedestrians and vehicles frequently crossing the tracks illegally in front of oncoming trains.
