Caltrain Police Sweep Tuesday Will Target Trespassers
Who:
Caltrain's Transit Police officers will conduct a "zero-tolerance trespass
abatement sweep along the rail corridor in San Francisco to heighten awareness that
being on railroad property is both illegal and dangerous. Officers from the Amtrak
Police Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Transit Police will conduct
the enforcement sweep with assistance from San Francisco police and the California
Highway Patrol, making themselves visible and looking for violators.
When:
Tuesday, January 21
Where:
Officers involved in the daylong effort will meet about 8 a.m. near the Caltrain
terminal in San Francisco and spread south from King Street to the Quint Street area,
driving and walking along the rail corridor.
What:
The first high-profile, aggressive enforcement campaign of 2003 is intended to
remind the public of Caltrain's zero-tolerance approach to railroad-related
violations, which includes citations for trespassing, whether by pedestrians or
drivers. In the coming year, transit police will continue to work with local police
departments to conduct frequent enforcement actions all along the Caltrain corridor
from San Francisco to San Jose.
