Caltrain Police Blitz Planned Along San Jose Tracks
Who:
Caltrain's Transit Police officers will focus on San Jose for their second
intensive trespass abatement sweep of 2003. The "zero tolerance" blitz is intended
to heighten awareness that being on railroad property is both illegal and dangerous
and that violators will be cited. The Amtrak Police Department and San Mateo County
Sheriff's Transit Police will be joined by Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies and
San Jose police officers as they patrol the rail corridor.
When:
Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003
Where:
Officers involved in the daylong effort will gather for a 7 a.m. - 8 a.m. briefing
at the Amtrak Police office at 93 Cahill St. before beginning the enforcement sweep,
which will continue until 7 p.m. The area to be patrolled extends about 1½ miles
along the tracks between the San Jose Diridon and Tamien Caltrain stations.
What:
Wednesday's enforcement blitz follows one Jan. 21 in San Francisco during which 16
citations were issued and five arrests were made for trespassing and other
railroad-related offenses. Caltrain police are focussing on the area in San Jose
because of past problems, including recurrent homeless camps and trespassing on a
railroad bridge.
