Transit District Memorializes Events of September 11

The San Mateo County Transit District will take a moment to remember the victims of Sept. 11, 2001 on Wednesday.

The memorial will be marked by a moment of silence, which will be observed by stopping all SamTrans buses and Caltrains at 10 a.m. Employees at transit district headquarters and at both bus bases also will pause their work to observe a moment of silence.

The observance allows transit district employees and passengers to join the community in reflecting on the many lives lost and affected by the tragedies in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

All district vehicles and trains also will display a flag on all entry doors with the words "In Remembrance" underneath.

In addition, the transit district will memorialize the events of September 11 by flying all U.S. flags at half-staff for the day and displaying "In Remembrance" banners and flags on district Web sites.
