Costumed Caltrain staff members, along with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department and Amtrak Police, are taking the message of railroad safety to several nearby schools on Halloween.

What:

Members of the media are invited to attend one of Caltrain's Halloween safety events. Caltrain will promote rail safety during the "trick or treating" season by handing out goody bags to students at three schools along the Caltrain rail corridor. The Halloween safety bags include reflective stickers and zipper-pulls to make kids more visible at night, Operation Lifesaver goodies and Halloween candy.

When:

Thursday, October 31

Where:

  • Washington School, 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
    801 Howard, Burlingame
  • Gardner School, 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
    512 Illinois Ave., San Jose
  • Nesbit School, 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.
    500 Biddulph Way, Belmont

Why:

Caltrain is continuously working to educate the public about railroad safety. Caltrain hosts safety events throughout the year, gives safety presentations at area schools, and is a certified member of California Operation Lifesaver, an educational program aimed at eliminating collisions, deaths and injuries at street and rail intersections and along the railroad right of way.
