Burlingame Station Photos
The Burlingame Caltrain Station first opened for service in 1894. The "Mission-Revival" style train station was built with funds from the Burlingame Country Club. The palm tree on the left was planted in 1897. Two new palm trees were planted by Caltrain during the station reconstruction in 2007.
Prior to renovation in 2007-08 the Burlingame station had a center boarding platform that did not allow two trains to enter the station at the same time. The $20.5 million construction project covered a range of improvements, including accessibility for people with disabilities and renovation of the Morrell Avenue pedestrian crossing, north of the station.
The sign on the station was meant to be Romanesque, i.e. mimicking Latin. In Latin the letters U and V are the same, and are the 20th letter in the Roman alphabet.
Construction of the new outside platforms began in June 2007 and concluded
in June 2008. Passengers can now board safely from both sides of the tracks.
As part of the construction project, construction crews built seven passenger shelters to resemble the style of the historic station.
Workers lay tiles and smooth out concrete as part of the new expanded plaza adjacent to the tracks at the Burlingame station.
