With the limited number of bike spaces on board trains, cyclists are encouraged to park their bike at Caltrain stations, when feasible. This will eliminate potential delays for cyclists who have to wait for trains with available capacity for bikes on-board.

Bike racks, lockers and shared-access parking facilities are available at most Caltrain stations for patrons who bike to and from Caltrain stations. Caltrain and other local agencies are upgrading and adding bike parking at train stations along the corridor.

Racks

Racks are located at all stations, except for College Park, Capitol, Blossom Hill and San Martin.

• Lock the front wheel and bike frame to the rack. Better yet, secure both wheels and the bike frame to the rack.
• Wave racks: Park your bike such that it straddles the rack, so other bikes can be parked there also. Do not park your bike parallel to the rack, as this will prevent anyone else from parking there.
• Do not lock your bike to railings, furniture, trees, poles, etc. It could impede access for others, i.e. wheelchair users, parents with strollers, etc.

Lockers

Lockers and shared access parking, i.e. sheds, and attended bicycle parking facilities, provide a greater level of protection for bikes that are parked at Caltrain stations for extended periods. These are administered by various agencies throughout the Caltrain system.

Users need to sign up for a key prior to using a locker or sheds. Generally, there is a refundable key deposit. Some agencies also charge a monthly rental fee, with a three or six month minimum.

Shared Access Bicycle Parking

Attended bike parking facilities, commonly known as ‘bike stations’, allow bikes to be checked in and out with an attendant, similar to valet parking for cars. The San Francisco Bike Parking Facility and the Palo Alto Bikestation are two such facilities serving Caltrain.
